Pintxos are a must for visitors to the Basque Country, something that has attracted visitors from all over the world and will continue to do so. If you are familiar with Spanish tapas, this is the same thing but with the Basque touch that we love.
Walking with a tourist, he asked me what the most famous pintxo in San Sebastian was. I couldn't answer, as Basque cuisine has become so creative and there are so many ingredients and versions of pintxos that it's difficult to know for sure.
Anyway, I came up with a short list. These are the best pintxos you can find:
Txangurro.
Cocochas
Idiazabal risotto: Mushroom or Idiazabal ‘rissoto’
Anchovies, mixed with other ingredients
The best thing is still to discover for yourself in the countless bars in the old part of San Sebastian (that's where the best ones are).
Basque cuisine has delicacies to suit all budgets. If you are looking for Michelin stars and luxury, without losing the local flavour, you can find it at various price points. From the world's best award-winning chefs to smaller, more affordable restaurants.
The most exclusive:
Arzak Restaurant
Aquelarre Restaurant, by Pedro Subijana
